Big GIrl Red-tailed Hawk

Why the name?
Because, at 64 ounces of solid muscle, she is one big Red tail. And, by weight, she has to be female.

Rehab history
Probably in mid 1998. Transferred to RCV in late December 1998.

Story
Big Girl was probably hit by a car. She is non-sighted in her right eye, and has limited vision in her left eye. Big Girl has recovered from most of the effects of her collision with the car, but her eyes cannot be fixed. When placed in a 40-foot cage, she had difficulty finding her food and at one time, in full flight, she swerved into a ten foot high wall - because she couldn't see it.

Big Girl has learned to remain calm in front of large crowds of people. She is a beautiful, large, strong Red-tailed Hawk who is surprisingly relaxed. She is a very popular and effective education bird who gets people's attention when she opens her four and a half foot wingspan! She also serves as a surrogate mother to young hawks. Big Girl is a lovely gal who certainly deserves your support!
