Story
This Short-eared
Owl was brought to the Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation
Center in Sitka, Alaska, an outstanding raptor facility.
ARRC determined that Shortkake had a luxated (hyper-extended)
elbow in the right wing, and was non-releasable. After
completing rehabilitation at ARRC, Shortkake was transferred
here on May 26, 1999, and has been trained as an education
bird. She made her first public appearance in the fall
of 1999. Shortkake will also contribute important blood
value data and other information to raptor databases,
as there is a paucity of available information on this
uncommon and lovely species of owl.
