Story
This lovely adult female Red Tail Hawk was found on the ground in very low physical condition. She was missing all the primary feathers on her right wing, and had apparently been surviving for some time by eating road kill. We do not know why she lost those primary feathers, but hoped that she would grow new ones the following spring during the annual molt. Unfortunately no new primary feathers appeared, and she remains essentially non-flighted. She is in the process of settling into her new role, and we hope will be making public appearances for years to come.
