"Smoke" - Eastern screech owl

Why the name?
Because of his smoky grey plumage and silent feathers.

Rehab history
Arrived in Spring 2012.

This male grey morph Eastern Screech Owl was hit by a car in 2012. His left wing was broken and some of the bone was lost, so his wing healed short and he is completely unable to fly.

Smoke is a very laid back education bird who always looks both interestingly windswept and completely unfazed by his surroundings. He is always a popular little fellow at presentations!

Smoke doesn't vocalize often but has been known to yell at RCV volunteers that approach his cage without his nightly ration of 2 small mice.
