"xena" - great horned owl
Why the name?
Because she is a warrior princess!
Xena was confiscated by the authorities from the people who raised her as a chick and turned over to RCV as an education bird in 2000.
Xena was irresponsibly allowed to become fully imprinted on humans when she was very young. Imprinting is a biological process for raptors which cannot be reversed. Although she is a lovely, large and healthy female, she would not survive in the wild. Release of a human imprinted bird is also prohibited by federal law.
Xena has become comfortable making public appearances, and is a striking addition to any program.
